Yosemite National Park: Even though it might be a bit out of the way from the coast, a visit to the breathtaking Yosemite National Park should be on everyone’s list. As you venture into this pristine wilderness, be prepared to be awestruck by towering granite cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and ancient giant sequoias. Hike along the Mist Trail to witness the roaring power of Vernal Fall and continue to the magnificent Half Dome for a challenging but rewarding climb. Immerse yourself in the beauty of nature as you camp under the starry skies or explore the park’s numerous hiking trails, such as the famous Yosemite Valley Loop. For me a trip to Yosemite isn’t complete without some canyoneering. The waterfalls and big cliffs call to me and I love exploring the depths of these majestic canyons.

San Francisco: From Yosemite a three hour drive will have you in the vibrant city of San Francisco. Cross the iconic Golden Gate Bridge and immerse yourself in the city’s energetic atmosphere. Take a stroll along Fisherman’s Wharf and indulge in a bowl of clam chowder while enjoying views of the bay. Explore the historic Alcatraz Island, once home to some of America’s most notorious criminals, and learn about its captivating past. Don’t miss the chance to ride a cable car up the city’s steep streets, visiting iconic landmarks like Lombard Street, Chinatown, and the colorful Painted Ladies in Alamo Square.

Big Sur, California: You could make a full trip just driving the famous Highway 1 down the coast of California. This coastal paradise captivates visitors with its rugged beauty and awe-inspiring vistas. Nestled along the Central Coast, this stunning region is known for its dramatic cliffs, pristine beaches, and towering redwood forests. As you drive along the iconic Highway 1, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean crashing against the rocky coastline.
