This may have been my favorite activity we did in Peru. Skylodge Adventure Suites offers an exhilarating and unique experience for adventure seekers. These extraordinary accommodations are perched high up on the side of a mountain in the Sacred Valley of Peru. Imagine spending the night in a transparent capsule, suspended hundreds of feet above the ground, with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding natural beauty.
To reach the Skylodge, guests embark on an exciting journey. The adventure begins with a thrilling via ferrata (a route on a mountain face equipped with steel cables, ladders, and other fixed anchors) or hike up the mountainside. We opted for the via ferrata.
To start the via ferrata, you’ll be equipped with a harness, helmet, and safety gear, ensuring your security throughout the climb. As you ascend the rugged mountainside, you’ll make your way along the well-maintained iron cables, gripping metal rungs and stepping across suspension bridges. The experience combines the thrill of rock climbing with the awe-inspiring views of the Sacred Valley. With each step, you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment, knowing you are conquering the heights. As you reach the top and gaze upon the view, you’ll appreciate the extraordinary journey that led you there. The via ferrata offers a unique and exhilarating way to immerse yourself in the beauty of the Peruvian mountains.
Once you reach the top, you’ll be greeted by the incredible sight of the Skylodge. These unique, transparent pods are built into the cliff face, providing an awe-inspiring vantage point. The pods are made of sturdy materials that ensure safety while allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the stunning landscape. There are the private guest pods and then the main dining pod.
Inside the guest pods, you’ll find comfortable and cozy beds, providing a restful night’s sleep after an adrenaline-filled day. The transparent walls offer uninterrupted views of the starry night sky, giving you the sensation of sleeping among the stars. It’s an experience like no other, as you awaken to the soft glow of the rising sun, casting its golden light on the magnificent valley below. One of the big questions I had before arriving was how the restrooms worked. Let me reassure you that the bathroom situation works well as each pod is equipped with a private bathroom. While the capsules are suspended high on the mountainside, the bathroom facilities are discreetly positioned inside the capsules, ensuring privacy for guests.
Most of the time will be spent in your private pod except for meals. Meals are also included in the cost of your stay at the Skylodge. Each time you move between your pod and the dining area you’ll have to put on your harness and helmet to traverse along the cliff face. The night of your arrival a delicious dinner is served, where you can share stories and bond with fellow adventurers. The food is prepared with care, offering a taste of local cuisine that further enriches your cultural experience.
After spending the night in the transparent capsules on the mountainside, you’ll have a great breakfast before being able to spend the last few moments at your pod to enjoy the scenery. You won’t be too sad because one of the most fun parts of this journey is still ahead when you have the opportunity to embark on a breathtaking descent back to the valley floor via ziplining!
The ziplining adventure starts with a safety briefing from experienced guides who will provide you with the necessary equipment, including harnesses and helmets. They will ensure that you are properly prepared and educated about the ziplining experience.
Once you’re geared up, you’ll make your way to the starting point platform. As you stand on the platform, you can feel the anticipation building, knowing that you are about to soar through the air and take in stunning views from a different perspective.
When you’re ready, you’ll launch yourself off the platform, and gravity takes over as you zip down a series of steel cables. The speed and height at which you travel varies, but you can expect to experience and rush as you zoom through the air, feeling the wind against your face. As you descend, you’ll witness the breathtaking scenery surrounding you. The lush greenery, towering mountains, and sweeping valleys unfold beneath you, providing a truly unforgettable panorama.
The zipline guides ensure your safety throughout the entire adventure, ensuring that you are securely attached to the cables and providing guidance along the way. They may also share interesting facts about the area, adding an educational element to the experience.
Upon reaching the end of the zipline course, you’ll be greeted with a sense of accomplishment and an overwhelming feeling of exhilaration. The memories of this unique adventure will stay with you for a lifetime, serving as a reminder of the incredible experience you had at the Skylodge. This was definitely the most unique hotel experience I’ve personally had and is one of those times I had to spend more than I normally would because the opportunity was so unique.
