I’ve tried to offer some ideas of what you can do in 2 or 4 days. These itineraries are designed to maximize your experience, revealing the city’s iconic landmarks, delectable cuisine, and stunning archipelago views.

Day 1: Old Town and Royal Elegance

Morning:

  • Start your day with a traditional Swedish breakfast at a local café. “Vete-Katten” is a popular choice known for its pastries and coffee.
  • Explore Gamla Stan (Old Town):
    • Visit the Royal Palace and catch the Changing of the Guard ceremony (around 12:15 PM during summer).
    • Wander through the narrow alleys and streets, admiring the historic architecture.
    • Check out the Stockholm Cathedral (Storkyrkan) with its unique interior.

Afternoon:

  • For lunch, head to “Den Gyldene Freden,” one of Stockholm’s oldest restaurants. Try Swedish classics like meatballs or herring.

Remember that this 2-day itinerary is relatively packed, so make sure to manage your time effectively and prioritize the attractions that interest you the most. Stockholm offers a blend of history, culture, and modern delights, allowing you to experience a taste of the city’s diversity even in a short visit. If you have more time here is a 4 day itinerary so you can spread things out more. I personally don’t like to spend a lot of my allotted time in a single city and like to move on to other locations.

Day 1: Explore the Old Town (Gamla Stan)

Morning:

  • Arrive in Stockholm and check into your accommodation.
  • Start your day with a traditional Swedish breakfast at a local café.
    • Try a traditional Swedish breakfast at a café like “Vete-Katten” known for its pastries and coffee.

  • Head to Gamla Stan, the charming old town of Stockholm.
  • Visit the Royal Palace and witness the Changing of the Guard ceremony.
